Edge data centre provider GPX Global Systems (GPX) has opened its second data centre facility in Mumbai, bringing the company’s total equipped space in the Mumbai metro to 105,000 sqf.

The company said that its first data centre, GPX Mumbai1, hosts 12 telcos, over 120 ISPs, four Internet Exchanges, and eight cloud service providers, creating an “unrivalled internet and cloud ecosystem”.

The opening of the GPX Mumbai2 data centre is set to expand Mumbai’s ecosystem, according to the company and will utilise new technologies to enhance the proven design and electrical-mechanical architectures of the first data centre.

The Mumbai2 data centre is a standalone, Tier 4 certified facility with 16MW of power, according to GPX.

The company added that its Mumbai1 and Mumbai2 data centres are interconnected with GPX’s data centre interconnect network offering 1G, 10G, and 100G services.

“GPX is expanding its critical role in supporting digital transformation in India, where interconnectivity is key, by creating infrastructure which is helping to bring content closer to the Indian population and improving the quality of internet services,” said Nick Tanzi, President and CEO, GPX Global Systems.

“GPX Mumbai2 provides expansion for our existing customers and ample space for new customers to join the largest internet and cloud ecosystem in India.”

It was in February last year that the company projected the data centre to measure 60,000 sqf and include 52U cabinets.

Last month, the company revealed that it will offer private access to Oracle Cloud through Oracle Cloud Infrastructure FastConnect.

“The launch of Oracle FastConnect in India at the GPX Data Centre provides new opportunities for our customers, enabling them to build solutions that take advantage of the economic benefits of Oracle Cloud alongside their existing on-premises infrastructure,” said Manoj Paul, MD, GPX India.

“Our highly differentiated Tier IV data centre is already a thriving digital ecosystem and the most interconnected Data Centre, providing direct access to a wide range of connectivity and cloud options.”
