Equinix, a global interconnecton and data centre company, has announced that it will build a product development centre in Warsaw.

The facility will design advanced, customer-inspired, software-defined networking products, develop virtual IT infrastructure capabilities and perform data science-backed IT infrastructure research with the goal of accelerating global digital business.

“Poland is the ideal location for a product development centre thanks to its supply of highly trained engineers and specifically, software experts who have a well-deserved reputation for being among the world’s brightest,” said Robert Busz, managing director Poland, Equinix. “We are looking to hiring the best possible talent locally, to spark innovation into the products and solutions that will enable the digital economy. I am very much looking forward to getting the centre up and running – it’s great to have such an innovative hub in our market.”

Equinix will invest $45 million in Warsaw over the next five years to support this initiative and it is predicted to make Warsaw one of three global locations of its kind joining the likes of Singapore and Silicon Valley.

In addition, the new centre will employ roughly 40 people in the fields of engineering and product management throughout 2018 before increasing to 90 employees by the end of 2019. The solutions developed by this team will be rolled out to more than 200 Equinix data centres, across 52 markets globally.

“Platform Equinix is the global interconnection platform for the world’s leading businesses. Our customers associate our brand with something higher level than buildings or technical connections – they see us as partners in business strategy and innovation, where we ideate together and often co-develop solutions together,” added Brian Lillie, chief product officer, Equinix. “We are excited to extend our capabilities to further support these global companies and look forward to working with them to drive innovation in our new product development centre in Warsaw.”

At present Equinix serves more than 360 clients in Polad through its two International Business Exchange data centres in Warsaw – WA1 and WA2. The company first entered the Polish market back in 2016 with the acquisition of Telecity.
