DE-CIX is expanding its operation in Frankfurt and reinforcing its partnership with NTT Communications’ data centre operator e-shelter.

The companies announced that e-shelter’s FRA4 data centre at Hattersheim and its FRA2 centre at Hanauer Landstrasse will become DE-CIX Enabled Sites.

The expansion means the DE-CIX infrastructure is now distributed across a total of 29 different data centres in the Greater Frankfurt area.

Thomas King, CTO at DE-CIX, said: “In the past year, the connected data capacity in our Frankfurt location alone has grown by 20%. This certainly also has to do with our very successful cooperation with e-shelter at the location campus FRA1.”

Volker Ludwig, e-shelter’s senior VP for sales, said: “Alongside Hattersheim, we are currently strongly expanding our European locations in, among others, Amsterdam and London.”

King added: “We see a clear trend towards more and more customers registering a larger requirement for data capacity at DE-CIX. As an example, the orders for 100GE ports rose by almost 40% in 2017. This trend will continue in the coming years.”

DE-CIX said it will soon be operating 15 internet exchanges worldwide in key markets such as Europe, India, the Near East, and North America. DE-CIX in Frankfurt has record data traffic of more than 6.4Tbps.
