PCCW Global partners HENGTONG Group on PEACE Cable project

PCCW Global and HENGTONG Group, a Chinese technology and industrial company, have signed a collaboration agreement to connect China to Europe and Africa via the Pakistan East Africa Connecting Europe (PEACE) cable.

Together PCCW Global and HENGTONG will direct the overall project. Huawei Marine, already signed on to build the initial segment of the project. The 12,000km, high-speed cable system is due to go live in early 2020 and once completed will offer the shortest routes from China to Europe and Africa. In addition, individual cable stakeholders will have the be able to design the network to their own specifications, without impacting others using the system.

“We are proud that two such reputable industry leaders – HENGTONG Group and Huawei Marine – have entrusted us and our expertise in cable planning and management to be the commercial channel for the PEACE project,” said Sameh Sobhy, vice president, Middle East & North Africa, PCCW Global. 

Under the terms of the agreement PCCW Global will be the manager of the commercial side of the cooperation, responsible for all capacity services and landing party arrangements, in addition to bundling capacity on the new submarine cable with existing network products and services.

It is the power of this cooperation that is spearheading the deployment and commercialization of better connectivity between Europe, Asia and Africa.”

The partnership lays the foundation for the two companies to collaborate on other regional connectivity projects as well as the establishment of smart cities across various continents.
