Telxius deploys point of presence at QTS data centre
Telxius, the infrastructure company of the Telefónica Group, has announced the launch of a new point of presence (PoP) in QTS Realty Trust’s Richmond data centre.
The news comes as Telxius says it is responding to the growing need for high capacity and low latency connectivity to Europe and South America via its MAREA – BRUSA subsea cables.
“The Virginia Beach cable landing has catapulted Richmond as a destination for enterprises and hyperscalers seeking access to and savings from these ultra-high capacity and low latency international cable systems,” said Chad Williams, CEO, QTS Realty Trust. “Telxius’ presence in our Richmond mega data centre combined with direct fibre routes to our new Ashburn data centre, establishes QTS as the nexus for high performance hybrid colocation and hyperscale solutions.”
MAREA and BRUSA are two high capacity, low latency subsea cables. MAREA was built as a joint project between Telxius with Facebook and Microsoft, and offers 200Tbps of capacity across the Atlantic connecting Virginia in the US and Sopelana, Spain.
Conversely BRUSA is a private cable, built by Telxius, connecting the US and Brazil. Both systems terminate in the US directly into the new Virginia Beach Cable Landing Station (VBCLS) located in Telxius’ Virginia Beach distribution hub.

QTS Richmond is the closest Tier 3 data centre to the MAREA and BRUSA next-gen VBCLS enabling QTS to provide enterprises and hyperscalers with the highest on-net capacity and lowest latency for the entire MAREA – BRUSA cable system.
