Interxion launches direct access to IBM Cloud across European footprint

Interxion has launched direct access to IBM Cloud Services at its data centres across Europe through its cloud interconnection platform.

The access to IBM is being made available through Interxion’s Cloud Connect service, which offers secure, high-performance VLAN interconnections to multiple cloud offerings through one physical link.

The access to IBM Cloud is being made available through IBM Cloud Direct Link, a network service which is being collocated in Interxion’s Frankfurt and Stockholm facilities. This means that any of the data centre operator’s European customers can now access IBM Cloud services.

“Enterprises are rapidly building innovative solutions on the cloud that leverage AI, IoT, machine learning and more," said Kit Linton, vice president of network at IBM Cloud. "With IBM Cloud Direct Link access from Interxion campuses across Europe, our customers can create direct connections to the IBM Cloud to maximize their data and help generate new business value.”

IBM is the third biggest player in the cloud infrastructure services market, according to figures from Synergy Research Group from Q4 2017, behind only Amazon (AWS) and Microsoft (Azure). Interxion’s Cloud Connect already offers interconnection services to both AWS and Azure, meaning its customers can now access the three biggest cloud providers.

Interxion has 49 data centres located across 11 European countries and is currently developing additional sites in both Marseille and London. Partners include more than 700 connectivity providers, 21 European Internet exchanges, and enterprise customers across multiple sectors.

“Enterprises are increasingly developing and implementing hybrid and multi-cloud IT strategies to gain better control over their total cost of ownership, reduce time to market for delivering new services and scale to their needs,” said Vincent in ‘t Veld, vice president of platforms at Interxion.

“Our Cloud Connect service is built to deliver private connections with predictable and consistent performance to IBM Cloud via the fully-automated and self-service customer portal.”

Interxion recently unveiled plans to enhance its capacity across seven European cities in order to meet customer demand. According to rankings released by Cloudscene, it is ranked second-placed in the EMEA behind Equinix. It saw grew 24.67% over 2017.
