Interoute to provide SD-WAN services to Thule Group

Interoute has been picked by sporting goods provider Thule Group as supplier of a software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN service) that will connect 30 of its sites across 14 countries.

Thule will use Interoute Edge SD-WAN in order to support its growth plans and digital evolution. Interoute Edge offers intelligent network management by controlling traffic routing, as well as offering WAN Optimisation.

It prioritises and optimises essential data traffic at the edge of the network, Interoute claims, actively directing it across the lowest latency routes to and from applications hosted in the cloud.

Thule Group’s products are sold in 140 markets and in 2016, sales amounted to SEK 5.3 billion. It has around 2,200 employees worldwide, with the aim of using Interoute’s product to reduce costs and increase flexibility.

“As we’ve moved to use more cloud and SaaS based applications, we’ve seen increased bandwidth demand and heavy over-utilisation of our network. We needed an underlying network that would allow us to achieve greater flexibility, scalability and control over our IT estate,” said Anders Olsson, director of IT at Thule Group.

“Interoute owns an advanced world-class network that offers us a platform unlike any other. With Interoute, we now have a software defined network foundation that offers us the flexibility we need to expand our business, enabling us to grow and evolve without technology limitations.”

Interoute’s network and a global cloud services platform encompasses 17 data centres, 17 IaaS zones and 51 colocation centres, with connections to over 195 additional third-party data centres across Europe.

“As Thule Group is a world leader in premium products that simplify an active lifestyle, it needs a digital platform that can support its rapid growth into new product categories,” explained Mark Lewis, EVP products & development at Interoute.

“Using Interoute Edge, Thule Group can leverage our low-latency global cloud fabric, which will enable Thule Group to benefit from high bandwidth, WAN optimised access to their applications in the data centre and various clouds, all securely meshed to their locations.”
