Ooredoo Group said its Myanmar business now offers the “widest and fastest 4G network in the country” after significantly expanding its network to cater to over 15 million people and reach two-thirds of Myanmar’s townships, with up to three times higher data speeds such as 500Mbps browsing speeds.

“We are proud to have delivered this upgrade to over 200 townships in such a short amount of time, making the fastest speeds available a daily reality for our customers,” said Vikram Sinha, CEO of Ooredoo Myanmar.

“We have big plans for 2018 and are working hard for network upgrade. We want our customers to be able to enjoy the best of the internet in a way that is personal and unique to them.”

With this upgrade, Ooredoo moves to the forefront of network technology in Myanmar, enabling customers to take advantage of the extra speeds and smooth browsing to stay in touch with their loved ones, enjoy live broadcasting, stream their favourite music, watch on-demand ultra HD videos and take part in real-time gaming.

Myanmar was recently identified in Capacity's Asia Wholesale Report 2018 as the second country, behind China, touted as having the greatest potential for growth in the region largely due to is rapidly growing economy and strategic location sandwiched between some of the world's biggest economies.

Sheikh Saud bin Nasser Al Thani, group chief executive officer of Ooredoo, added: “We are on a mission to enable customers across our footprint to access and enjoy the internet, and enhance their digital experience. Through our network modernisation programme, we have successfully brought 4G+ services to our customers in Myanmar, allowing individuals and businesses to take advantage of the host of new opportunities that faster internet can bring them.”
