Core-Backbone upgrades German network to 100Gbps with Infinera

German carrier Core-Backbone is upgrading its major routes between Frankfurt, Munich and Nuremberg to 100Gbps to expand capacity for customers.

The company, which operates a data centre in Nuremberg, with links to Frankfurt, Munich, Leipzig and other cities, has bought the new link from Infinera.

Core-Backbone CEO Daniel Maresch said: “Core-Backbone is rapidly expanding as our customers require more capacity to service their city rings and connect their data centres, and as we collaborate with internet exchange providers to deliver network services in Germany and to our worldwide points of presence for traffic exchange.”

Infinera’s Cloud Xpress “provides our network the flexibility to deliver 100Gbps services quickly and protects our network investment”, said Maresch.

Core-Backbone is an international carrier and service provider delivering IP transit, Layer 2 connectivity and remote peering with secure, high-availability network connectivity to internet exchanges across Europe.

Nick Walden, senior vice president for EMEA at Infinera, said: “The Cloud Xpress delivers Core-Backbone a solution with compact design, ease of use and scalability, enabling the company to deliver capacity rapidly while minimising the cost of space and power.”

Meanwhile Core-Backbone has added two points of presence to its network in January – the German city of Hamburg and the Dutch city of Haarlem, using IPHH Hamburg and EvoSwitch AMS1 respectively.
