PLDT to launch second VITRO facility

Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) is expanding its commercial data centre operations with the construction of its second data centre in Cebu, expected to complete by Q4 2017.

PLDT, through its enterprise digital enabler ePLDT, is constructing its second VITRO facility in Mandaue City to meet increasing demand and requirements of data-driven enterprises in Cebu, Visayas, Mindanao, and Luzon.

The four-storey facility will have a minimum floor area of 3,600 square metres, 700-rack capacity, which will add to ePLDT’s 8,300-rack capacity aim by year-end, and eight layers of security. It will be supported by PLDT’s fibre-optic network spanning over 100,000km across the Philippine archipelago, which comprises of around 2,000 inhabited islands.

"Visayas and Mindanao are home to the most vibrant industries and business communities that greatly contribute to the country's economic growth. A little more than three years after its opening in 2012, the first VITRO in Cebu is now 100% utilised, a testament to the region’s dynamic business environment,” said Eric Alberto, EVP of PLDT and ePLDT’s president and CEO.

“The second VITRO data centre will address the region's local enterprises’ needs as they get more aggressive in outsourcing the hosting and management of their IT assets.

The new facility will serve the growing demand for colocation, enterprise-class cloud and managed services requirements of data-driven industries.

“Our expansion plans will complement the growing need for data centre services in the region and provide a stronger foundation to sustain the momentum of businesses to become more competitive with digital services,"

Once operational, the facility, which will reside alongside ePLDT’s existing data centre in Mandaue City, will increase PLDT Group’s network of data centres to nine sites.
