Millicom to offer Microsoft Azure in Latin America

Millicom’s Latin American business customers to be offered Microsoft cloud services.

Millicom is to offer Latin American customers of its Tigo Business services access to Microsoft Azure, the software company’s cloud network.

Services will be available to Tigo’s business customers in Colombia, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Bolivia and Paraguay.

Marcelo Benitez, VP of Tigo Business, said: “The Tigo Business and Microsoft partnership offers a significant opportunity to bring cost, service and security benefits to businesses across the Latam region.”

The companies will deliver a localised suite of products and services such as data services, increased security, local currency payments and account management, they said.

The service will combine Tigo Business’s data centre infrastructure with that of Microsoft, to target large businesses and multinationals with data recovery services.

The companies have also developed a cloud solution provider programme, which enables Tigo Business to sell Microsoft licences targeting the needs of small and medium size businesses. The packages on offer will include Microsoft Office 365.

Pablo Lombardero, director for the partner organisation at Microsoft Latin America new markets, said: “Through this partnership with Tigo Business, and due to their brand and reach, we see great possibilities to unlock new opportunities for our mutual customers. Both Tigo Business and Microsoft understand that cloud computing delivers significant efficiencies in costs, allowing organizations to benefit from the flexibility and efficiency of the Microsoft Azure platform.”

Benitez added: “Small and medium sized businesses are the engines of the economy in the region, and this partnership will help businesses to continue their digital transformations and capture the growth ahead.”
