DE-CIX adds Interoute site to its Madrid IXP

Internet exchange operator DE-CIX has selected Interoute’s Madrid data centre as an additional site for its Madrid internet exchange point (IXP).

Extending to Interoute’s data centre strengthens the development of a national and international traffic hub and with the site, the second enabled DE-CIX Madrid site, the company which serves over 850 carriers, ISPs and content networks will help to attract more networks to the exchange.

“We are proud to be working very closely with a company as innovative as DE-CIX, and their choice confirms the quality and neutrality, already certified by leading international bodies, of our Madrid data centre,” said Diego Matas, general manager of Interoute Iberia.

“Their choice enables us to extend the possibility of exchanging traffic to every interested company, thus allowing their end users to enjoy a higher-quality Internet.”

The increasing traffic volume and bandwidth consumption combined with the relentless emergence of new applications requires the deployment of IXPs at locations that bring eyeballs closer to end-users.

Harald Summa, CEO of DE-CIX, said: “Adding Interoute’s data centre to our Madrid exchange will greatly improve the Internet user experience as more networks are able to join our platform and exchange traffic locally. We are also looking forward to having Interoute’s extensive network connected to DE-CIX Madrid.”

The company says DE-CIX Madrid is geographically the best place of choice for ISPs from Spain, Portugal and West African traffic coming to Madrid via Lisbon, including global content network operators who need neutral and reliable interconnection services.
