Cinia and Huawei to explore Silk Road route

Finnish operator Cinia and Huawei are aiming to establish a backbone from Europe to Asia via the northern Silk Road route.

The network aims to connect data centres in Northern and Central Europe to China, via Finland and Russia.

Cinia’s C-Lion subsea cable, which stretches 1,172km across the Baltic Sea, will provide a connection between Finland and Germany, where it then plans to establish a low-latency route onto China.

Huawei will supply a transmission platform supporting up to 21T per pair of fibre,.

“Partnering with the innovative suppliers helps Cinia develop an efficient optical backbone network and offer cutting-edge connectivity services. Cinia’s new optical transmission infrastructure will provide big data, corporate customers and operators with a fast, reliable and high-quality network all over Europe,” said Ari-Jussi Knaapila, CEO at Cinia.
