Singtel to open new data centre in Singapore

Singtel is to invest over $280 million in a new data centre in Singapore.

The Tier 3 facility in Jurong will become its largest to date, and is designed to meet the growing demand for co-location and cloud services in Singapore.

Due for completion in Q3 2016, the facility will offer a gross floor area of 570,000 square feet.

“This new data centre is designed to meet the critical hosting needs of the financial services industry, government agencies, and cloud and ISPs,” said Bill Chang, CEO of group enterprise at Singtel. “It enables Singtel to attract and host world-class cloud players in Singapore and position the country as a global hub for cloud computing and innovation.”

The move brings Singtel’s total data centre footprint in Asia-Pacific to 13 – nine in Singapore and two each in Hong Kong and Australia.

Earlier this week, Singtel signed a MoU with the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA) designed to develop and strengthen Singapore’s cyber security capabilities.
