Telenor Myanmar footprint hits 50%

Telenor Myanmar has extended its network to cover more than 50% of the population, according to local reports.

The operator has allegedly extended its network to Dawei in the Tanintharyi Division, meaning it now offers services in 13 major areas including Mandalay, Yangon, Sagaing, Bago, Magway, Ayeyarwaddy, Kayin, Mon, Kachin, Shan, Kayah, Nay Pyi Taw and Tanintharyi.

“Although we are facing some challenges in the rainy season, we are doing our best to continue the pace of our network growth,” Petter Furberg, Telenor Myanmar CEO, told reporters.

“We have gradually expanded our services to more towns and cities to underscore our mission to serve everyone with affordable voice and data.”

Telenor Myanmar has a total of 2,700 sites across the country, with approximately more than 811 in Yangon and 521 in Mandalay.

The company expects to roll out between 3,500 and 4,000 towers in Myanmar by the end of the year.

Last month, 17 companies across Myanmar applied to join a venture for the operation of a fourth mobile player in the country.
