du and Nokia Networks launch UAE LTE-A

Middle Eastern telco du has partnered with Nokia Networks for the launch of what they claim is the first LTE-A service in the UAE.

du used Nokia Networks’ Flexi Multiradio 10 base station, carrier aggregation software and professional services to launch LTE-A services on its 4G network in the country.

“This milestone underscores our global standing as a front-runner in introducing latest mobile broadband technologies in the UAE,” said Saleem ALBooshi, EVP of network development and operations at du.

“We timed it with the availability of CAT-6 smartphones in the UAE, so that our customers can immediately enjoy higher download speeds with increased throughput and coverage. In addition we will be able to help the government realise its Smart City vision.”

Nokia Networks combined FDD-LTE bands 1800MHz and 800MHz to provide the most efficient use of frequencies and high-quality coverage indoors and outdoors; allegedly enabling peak data speeds of 225Mbps.

“The feat is a great example of how we help ambitious telecoms service providers such as du address the ever-increasing demand for faster data speeds by taking advantage of existing spectrum,” said Tony Awad, head of du customer team at Nokia Networks.

“Our carrier aggregation solution helps du’s customers access wireless next-generation data services across the UAE.”
