The service will initially be available in Manchester, Berkshire and parts of Surrey and Hampshire, offering speeds of up to 76Mbps.
With BT in the process of acquiring the country’s largest mobile operator EE, Vodafone has turned to its Cable & Wireless enterprise network to offer its own broadband service.
The network will initially be used to offer broadband, and eventually TV, services to their UK customers.
“It makes perfect sense for Vodafone to target its core base, as our multiplay survey shows that people are willing to sign up to more services from the same provider,” Paolo Pescatore, analyst at CCS Insight, told reporters.
“It is clear that the company needs to turnaround its fortunes in the UK and this is a step in the right direction towards offering a converged multiplay service.”
Historically, Vodafone has been a mobile-only operator, but in recent years the company has been rolling out fixed-line broadband services across Europe.
“As the only operator in the UK which owns both a fixed and mobile network, we're in a great position to create innovative products and services that give our existing customers reasons to stay with us and new customers reasons to switch,” said Cindy Rose, consumer director at Vodafone UK.
