Intelsat enters development agreement with Kymeta

Intelsat has entered in to a development agreement with metamaterials-based antenna technology provider Kymeta to design and produce satellite antenna solutions for its Intelsat EpicNG high throughput satellite (HTS) platform.

The deal will support the launch of the first Intelsat EpicNG satellite which is scheduled for late 2015.

Kymeta’s tracking antennas will be designed to work with Intelsat’s satellite fleet, and aims to help establish connectivity across a range of industry verticals. The development agreement is expected to lead to range of antenna and terminal products across Intelsat’s application verticals such as maritime and aero mobility, content delivery and mobile backhaul applications.

“We are making significant investments in our new Intelsat EpicNG satellite platform which will deliver increased throughput and cost efficiency. Just as important is our investment in this new, metamaterials-based ground technology which will simplify access to our satellites and open attractive new markets for our solutions,” said Stephen Spengler, Intelsat’s deputy CEO.
