Slovak regulator awards frequencies to three telcos

O2 Slovakia, Swan and Benestra (formerly GTS Slovakia) have secured blocks of spectrum in Slovakia’s auction of broadband data frequencies, according to Reuters.

The auction raised a reported €1.17 million, with the Slovakian regulator offering frequencies in the 3,600-3,800MHz band.

The regulator is holding a second auction for broadband frequencies in the 8x5MHz FDD and TDD blocks and one 4.x5MHz TDD block. The deadline for bids is February 18, 2015.

Swan is a new entrant to a market dominated by Deutsche Telekom, Orange and O2.

In February 2014, the Slovakian government revealed plans to sell a 49% stake in state incumbent Slovak Telekom.
