Ooredoo launches LTE-A services in Qatar

Ooredoo Qatar has today launched nationwide LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) services in the country, in partnership with Nokia Networks.

The Finnish vendor upgraded Ooredoo’s LTE network in Qatar with LTE-A carrier aggregation, enabling downlink data speeds of up to 225Mbps for customers.

“The demand for higher network capacity and speed in malls, stadiums and at national events is growing at a rapid pace,” said Waleed Al-Sayed, COO at Ooredoo Qatar. “With Nokia Networks’ help, we are now able to address this demand, offering the fastest network with latest technology for our customers.”

Carrier aggregation is a key feature of LTE-A, enabling operators to create larger, virtual carrier bandwidths for services by combining separate spectrum bands to boost capacity, speed and performance.

Ooredoo’s deployment is claimed to be the first commercial LTE-A service with carrier aggregation in Qatar.

“We are committed to helping Ooredoo meet ever-increasing bandwidth demand by providing a smooth transition to LTE-A technology,” said Igor Leprince, EVP of global services and head of Middle East and Africa at Nokia Networks.

“With our expertise in carrier aggregation, our experience in delivering superior network performance and our extensive network planning services, Ooredoo can significantly increase its data throughput for the best customer experience possible.”
