Juniper Networks and Coriant provided the Integrated Packet Transport Network (IPTN) in order to build a converged packet optical national backbone.
The IPTN field trial ran 1,575 km between Aktobe and Astana. The network was said to perform with a zero bit error rate and sufficient margin to cover future network expansion.
The potential move to 100G is thought to help the operator address the increasing demand for faster broadband business and consumer services in Kazakhstan.
Kazakhtelecom is working on over 50 projects designed to develop and upgrade its fixed-line and mobile networks in Kazakhstan.
“With the achievement of this field trial, the IPTN solution shows that we can reduce the operational costs and decrease the delay in provisioning of new services in the IP layer, as well as in the optical transport layer,” said Nurlan Meirmanov, MD of innovations at Kazakhtelecom.
“This will bring us to the next step in our network upgrades that will enable the feature of multi-layer Generalised Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS) control plane for automated service provisioning. The scalability and flexibility of Coriant and Juniper’s systems have been critical to our success," Meirmanov added.
