Hungarian regulator announces winners in mobile auction

Hungarian regulator NMHH has sold a range of mobile broadband frequencies to Deutsche Telekom-owned Magyar Telekom and the Hungarian subsidiaries of Vodafone and Telenor.

The country will also see the entrance of Digi – a privately-owned Romanian company – which will enter the Hungarian mobile market for the first time.

Combined, the four companies will pay approximately $530.25 million US dollars for the frequencies, and the licences will run for 20 years.

The regulator announced earlier this year that it would issue tenders for additional mobile spectrum, and the sale is expected to include frequencies in the 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2600MHz ranges.
