SingTel will leverage Akamai’s global intelligent platform in order to deliver a cloud-based security solution, which is designed to help enterprises fight DDoS and other malicious web attacks.
The solution is said to enable SingTel to detect and block DDoS threats before they reach the targeted web services.
It adds to SingTel’s growing security portfolio, which also includes incident response management and security analysis through its security operations centres.
“Enterprises today deploy mission critical applications such as enterprise resource planning, e-commerce, cloud-based applications and Unified Communications across wide area networks and the internet. While these applications help enterprises to be more productive, agile and cost efficient, they also render enterprises more vulnerable to cyber-attacks such as DDoS, said William Woo, MD of enterprise data and managed services at SingTel.
“The partnership with Akamai enhances our capabilities further to deal with DDoS, one of the most prevalent and damaging cyber threats, and provide a better customer experience through faster content delivery.”
According to analyst firm Forrester, DDoS attacks can cost an enterprise an estimated $2.1 million for every four hours of downtime, and $27 million for a 24 hour outage.
