Talks with Myanmar’s YTP on hold, says True Corp

Thai telco True Corp, said today that discussions with Myanmar’s Yatanarpon (YTP) over the launch of mobile phone operations in the country, have been put on hold.

True Corp and YTP began negotiations for mobile services in February this year but Noppadol Dej-Udom, CFO at True, has told reporters: “There are some conditions that the two sides can’t agree.”

“What we offer is super fair. Now we are open to Yatanarpon to negotiate with other operators,” Dej-Udom said. “True is still waiting.”

However, he said that True is continuing to look for opportunities to launch telecoms services in Myanmar, and confirmed that the company has set up a subsidiary to provide some services in the country which will be operational soon. No further details were disclosed.

Owned by billionaire Dhanin Chearavanont, True operates a wide range of services in Thailand and in February this year, its subsidiary Real Future launched 4G LTE services in the country.

True chief executive Supachai Chearavanont, has previously said that he aims to sign on 100 million subscribers over the next five years, which would be nearly five times as much as the existing subscriber base in Thailand.
