Entel selects ZTE for Bolivian FTTx network

Entel South America has awarded a contract to China’s ZTE Corporation to be the exclusive supplier for the operator’s fibre-to-the-x (FTTx) network in Bolivia.

The network is expected to be the largest of its kind in the country, and will deliver high-speed broadband connectivity to consumers and businesses in all four regions of Bolivia.

Entel will deploy ZTE’s next-generation, high-density, full-service access platform to construct the network efficiently and allow for the smooth upgrade to next-generation, passive optical networks (PON), as well as wavelength-division multiplexing PON technologies.

Once completed, it is the network will reduce the technological divisions in the country and consolidate Entel’s leading position in the Bolivian market.

“With advanced technical solutions and extensive commercial experience, ZTE is a global leader in FTTx solutions,” said Zhu Yongxing, general manager of ZTE’s fixed network product line. “We will help Entel provide better broadband services for customers to achieve sustainable growth and improve its competitive strength in Bolivia.”

ZTE was also the vendor behind the two largest GPON networks in South America; the nationwide network of ANTEL in Uruguay, and the FTTH network of ETB in Colombia.
