Vivendi rumoured to return to Italian pay-TV market

Vivendi is said to be interested in acquiring Telefónica’s 11% stake in Italian pay-TV business Mediaset Premium.

According to Bloomberg, unnamed sources said the French operator is pursuing a stake in the unit of Mediaset, which is owned by former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi.

Telefónica acquired the stake in Mediaset Premium for €100 million in July.

If a move does materialise, it would mark Vivendi’s return to the Italian pay-TV market after selling Canal Plus to News Corp some ten years ago.

At the end of August, Vivendi entered into exclusive talks with Telefónica over the sale of its Brazilian broadband unit, GVT.
