PCCW Global and Phase3 Telecom partner for West African connectivity

PCCW Global has signed an agreement with Nigerian operator Phase3 Telecom for the delivery of advanced communications solutions across West Africa.

The deal will allow Phase3 Telecom to access PCCW Global’s international network, which covers 3,000 cities worldwide, including major African cities such as Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Johannesburg and Cape Town.

PCCW Global will benefit from improved access to networks in Nigeria, via Phase3 Telecom’s 6,000km fibre-optic cable in West Africa.

“This partnership is a strong endorsement of the quality of the network we have built, and a clear step forwards in our mission to connect all Nigerians with each other and with the rest of the world,” said Stanley Jegede, CEO at Phase3 Telecom.

“PCCW Global’s extensive network provides us with an unrivalled offering for corporate and institutional clients looking for a truly global solution, locally,” he added.

PCCW Global will help Phase3 Telecom to deliver high-quality data, voice and video solutions, as the Nigerian company looks to expand its West African infrastructure.

“PCCW is keen to explore new opportunities with Phase3 Telecom, as our collaboration opens up new connectivity in West Africa,” said James Welch, VP and head of sales for EEMEA at PCCW Global. “We are looking at facilitating improved communications for Nigerian businesses and beyond, thanks to our cost-effective and reliable communications solutions.”

Phase3 Telecom plans to extend its infrastructure by a further 3,000km over the next 18 months, as well as commission several PoPs at sites in all key cities.

In September last year, PCCW Global signed an agreement with Tata Communications for the interconnection of their IPX communities.
