Juniper launches SDN solutions

Juniper Networks has launched a set of software-defined networking (SDN) solutions which is designed to enable providers to build automated, high intelligence networks, in addition to addressing potential 5G demands.

Juniper’s new Junos Fusion software automates the network by controlling thousands of devices from a single management plane.

The software allows providers to reduce the complexity of a network which reduces operational costs.

Juniper is planning to launch a solution which optimises service providers' transport networks by the second half of 2014. The NorthStar Controller solution automatically identifies the optimal path within a multi-vendor network, based on operator-defined performance and cost requirements.

At the same time, the company also announced the launch of new customisable services which allows providers to adapt changes immediately using a programmable network. A Bain & Company study showed that consumers now expect more customised experiences.

Last week there were rumours that Finland’s Nokia is reportedly considering the acquisition of Juniper Networks in order to merge it with its own subsidiary, Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN).
