TeliaSonera launches PoP in Oman

TeliaSonera International Carrier (TSIC) has partnered with Omantel to launch a PoP in Oman.

The carrier’s network expansion will see it offer internet protocol, Ethernet, international voice and IPX-based services.

“Oman is an important gateway to the Middle East," said Brendan Ives, president at TeliaSonera.

"Partnering with Oman’s leading wholesale telecommunications provider was a natural choice in the expansion of our network."

The partnership allows TeliaSonera to utilise Oman’s strategic location as a landing point for ten regional cable systems, to meet growing customer demands for high performance connectivity.

“Oman’s geographical advantage being a natural hub enabled Omantel to become as a key interconnection point for international carriers,” said Amer Al Rawas, CEO of Omantel.

In September last year the Omani government announced plans to sell a 19% stake in Omantel.
