Iran reveals details of telecoms satellite

Iran has unveiled a domestically designed and manufactured telecoms satellite, designed to provide secure national and international satellite mobile connections.

According to local sources, the satellite was produced by researchers at Malek Ashtar University of Technology and was unveiled at a ceremony in Tehran, attended by Iranian president Hassan Rouhani and other senior government officials.

The satellite is reportedly scheduled to be sent into orbit in September.

The university also unveiled another satellite at the ceremony, which is capable of taking high-resolution images.

Iran’s space programme has prompted concerns among western governments that the country is attempting to develop the technology required to deliver a nuclear warhead, although the Islamic republic has denied the programme is linked to its nuclear ambitions.
