Venezuela installs 70% of fibre network

The Venezuelan telecoms market has installed 70.2% of its nationwide optic network, according to local reports.

Under the terms of the project, 6,886km of optical fibre has been deployed, with regulators claiming the system will interconnect the southern half of the country with the north coastal region, implementing 213 nodes in 18 states.

Investment in the project is expected to reach $400 million, and it will provide voice and data services, in addition to access to value-added applications.

Huawei and Alcatel-Lucent are reportedly among the equipment suppliers.
