Equinix to open sixth London data centre

UK data centre provider Equinix has announced plans to establish its sixth London data centre (LD6) in its London Slough campus.

Equinix has invested $79 million of capital expenditures into the construction of LD6 and it is expected to meet the growing demand from customers in the financial services, content, cloud and enterprise segments.

“LD6 is a hugely exciting project; the facility will be the most advanced data centre in the UK,” said Russel Poole, MD at Equinix UK.

“We are committed to providing not just continuity but also continuous improvement for our current and future customers; this latest addition to our thriving campus will also set new standards in efficiency and sustainability.”

The LD6 will provide a total capacity of 8,000 square metres – the equivalent of 2,770 cabinets – and phase one is scheduled to open in H1 of 2015 with an initial capacity of 1,385 cabinets.

Equinix has also invested $37 million in the acquisition of its LD4 and LD5 facilities, and, once LD6 is completed, its London Slough campus will provide 36,000 square metres of co-location space.

In December last year, Equinix announced a Chinese interconnect, Tencent, in its Hong Kong data centre.
