Reliance Globalcom has appointed William Barney as CEO of its three offshore businesses, Reuters reports.
A statement from the company read that Barney will be responsible for Flag Telecom, Yipes and Vanco, and his appointment is effective immediately.
Barney will operate out of Hong Kong and Mumbai, while Punit Garg – who has been CEO of the company since 2006 – will focus on Reliance Globalcom’s Indian enterprise business.
"We are delighted to have Bill join us to lead Reliance Globalcom into an accelerated phase of growth and development, leading to enhanced unlocking of value for the benefit of all our stakeholders," said Anil Ambani, chairman at Reliance Communications.
“William's track record and ability in reshaping the technology business will be a true asset to Reliance Globalcom."
Barney has more than 15 years experience in the Asian telecommunications industry and was CEO of Pacnet for 10 years, where he oversaw the acquisition of regional ISP, Pacific Internet.
“We are at an important time in the evolution of global internet technology, and I look forward to working with the [Reliance Globalcom] team to further advance the company's position in the global marketplace," said Barney.
