SK Telecom develops tri-band LTE-A solutions

South Korean operator SK Telecom has announced it has successfully developed an LTE-A solution in three spectrum bands.

The company claims LTE-Advanced 3-Band Carrier Aggregation (CA) technology has been developed for the first time in the world, and unveiled the service in the 20MHz + 10MHz + and 10MHz bands to support speeds of up to 300Mbps.

Once the chipsets and devices are developed to support the solutions, SK Telecom claims customers will have access to the fastest LTE-A speeds in the world.

LTE-Advanced 3-band CA is to be commercialised at the end of 2014 according to industry experts, and a global standardisation process is already underway.

“With the successful development of LTE-Advanced 3-Band CA, SK Telecom further strengthens its global leadership in telecommunications technologies,” said Park Jin-hyo, SVP and head of network technology R&D centre at SK Telecom.

“SK Telecom will continue to make strenuous efforts to provide unmatched service quality and speeds, which will lead to the overall advancement of the global telecommunications industry.

SK Telecom is reportedly planning to showcase the solution at Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona next month.
