Infinera deploys DTN-X platform on Australia Japan Cable network

Optical transport provider Infinera has announced a partnership with Australia Japan Cable (AJC) to expand the capacity of the cable consortium's subsea network.

Infinera will deploy its DTN-X packet optical transport network platform across the AJC submarine network, in a bid to increase its capacity and deliver 10, 40 and 100GbE services.

Run by a consortium including Telstra, AT&T, NTT, Verizon and SoftBank, AJC is a 12,700km fibre-optic cable network with landing points in Australia, Guam and Japan.

"To meet the growing bandwidth needs of carrier, enterprise and ISP customers, AJC is significantly increasing the capacity of our network," said Philip Murphy, head of engineering at AJC.

"We selected an Infinera intelligent transport network because it allowed us to scale capacity while simplifying operations.”

Infinera’s DTN-X platform features long-haul super-channels capable of supporting up to 500Gbps on a single line card, as well as the ability to support 1Tbps super-channel line cards for future scalability.

Andrew Bond Webster, VP of sales at Infinera, said: “The Infinera intelligent transport network provides AJC a mesh network of 500Gbps super-channels with soft decision forward error correction, ensuring the AJC network delivers increased network resiliency while delivering the capacity demanded by their customers.”

In October last year, Russia’s Rostelecom deployed Infinera’s DTN-X platform to extend its IP network reach in the country.

Capacity spoke exclusively to Tom Fallon, CEO at Infinera, last November, about the company’s forward-thinking strategy.
