Ciena partners with TDF for high-speed network

French radio and television service provider TDF today announced a partnership with network specialist Ciena, to enhance its network capabilities.

TDF has deployed Ciena’s optical solutions to enable the delivery of 100G services to its customers, as well as increase its bandwidth for those customers requiring high-speed and low-latency connectivity.

TDF’s 4,200km network connects to data centres in Paris, Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Aix-Marseille and Rennes, and Jean-Louis Mounier, industrial director at TDF Group, said that its network has now become critical to many organisations.

“As part of our experiences in the media sector and in order to address new markets, we implemented an expansion strategy that requires packet-optical technology and a partner that could support us in the creation of new services,” he said.

“Ciena provided us with that by helping us broaden our range of solutions, identify new clients and seize new opportunities.”

TDF’s network will be powered by Ciena’s 6500 packet-optical platform, and the French company will also leverage Ciena’s unified management system.

The French company hopes the partnership with Ciena will enable it to expand its network into verticals such as IT, healthcare, telecoms and government industries.

“In this increasingly competitive marketplace, operators like TDF must quickly respond to customer demands and simultaneously implement new service offerings that help differentiate them in the market,” said Eric Sèle, VP of strategic solutions for Europe, Middle East and Africa at Ciena.

“In our collaboration with TDF we are laying the foundation for next-generation 100G offers, and also positioning them to address current market challenges with new advanced, high-speed applications and services for its customers.”

In November last year, Spain’s Telefónica Global Solutions also deployed Ciena’s 100G optical solutions to support the operator’s SAm-1 submarine and terrestrial network.
