Slovenia announces details of 4G spectrum auction

Slovenian regulator Apek has announced details of its 4G auction which will be held in March.

Bidders will compete for spectrum in the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz and 2600 MHz bands.

The regulator announced that it has set spectrum caps in the interest of competition.

Auction rules also stipulate coverage obligations for licenses. All 800 MHz and 900MHz licenses must achieve 40% population coverage within three years, 1800 MHz and 2600 MHz licenses have an obligation to provide 25% coverage in three years, while winning bidders for 800MHz licenses have to cover 95% of the population in three years.

Slovenia currently has four mobile operators: Telekom Slovenije, Si.mobil, Tusmobil and T2.

Si.mobil was the first to offer LTE services in October 2012, while Telekom Slovenije launched its 4G services soon after in March 2013. Both operators reportedly plan to compete for licences.
