Uruguay and Brazil to form optical ring

Brazilian operator Telebras and the National Telecommunications Agency have partnered with the telecoms company of Uruguay to set up a joint infrastructure and integrate the networks of both countries.

The initiative is the first by the South American countries to implement an optical ring.

 

It is reported that the integration with now allow for the installation of the first Binational Telecentre of Latin America in Santana do Livramento in Uruguay.

As a further result, a Wifi network has also been set up to meet increasing telecoms needs in the two countries, and the network aims to provide a high-speed network for data and voice services.
