MTS eyes broadband cable TV provider in Moscow

Russian operator MTS is reportedly in talks to acquire broadband and cable TV provider Akado.

Akado, a Moscow based company, is majority owned by Russian tycoon Viktor Vekselberg’s Renova Group and was valued at over $1 billion a year ago.

MTS’ play is seen as a move to expand its footprint in the Moscow region, and local reports state the matter is being discussed with Akado shareholders.

If the deal goes through, MTS will take a 50% market share in the broadband and pay-TV segment across the city. Rivaling operator Vimpelcom owns 22.7% of the market.

Both MTS and Akado did not comment on the speculation
