Huawei has signed a deal with Italian operator Wind, to enhance 4G infrastructure in Italy. Wind has agreed a €1 billion contract with Huawei for the Chinese vendor to implement and build the company's high-speed mobile data network. [read more] 



 

British policy makers have claimed they are already looking at stage two of the country's superfast mobile broadband roll-out, through 5G, a month after the UK's 4G spectrum auction. UK watchdog Ofcom is expected to launch an industry consultation this week on creating radio frequency space to run high-speed 5G internet services. [read more]




 

Singapore operator M1 has partnered with Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) to modernise its mobile network and provide 3G infrastructure in the country. The operator has contracted NSN to deploy a 3G radio network on the 900MHz band, updating its core infrastructure to an all-IP network in an effort to improve its network performance. Cloud services provider Interoute has deployed Infinera's DTN-X platform to provide up to 500Gbps speeds across its pan-European network. The operator will deploy Infinera's platform for its end-to-end management system solutions across its network of 30 countries, 102 cities and through 21 city networks. [read more]




 

Telefónica España has claimed its network is the first to successfully trial 100, 200 and 400Gbps over an optical network using Alcatel-Lucent technology. The operator used Alcatel-Lucent's agile optical networking solution to enable network flexibility, which has proved a challenge in relation to the increasing demand for bandwidth. [read more]




 

Deutsche Telekom's Business Development and Innovation (BDI) unit has announced it will launch CDN and cloud delivery optimisation solutions. The services, 'NetAnalyze' and 'NetOptimize', are designed to develop multi-vendor hosting and delivery solutions, and are said to be a breakaway attempt from the convention of single-platform hosting. Internet service company VoiceAmerica has selected Level 3 Communications for CDN services and to help it deliver content to an online audience. VoiceAmerica reaches three million customers each day with live and on-demand internet radio programmes, covering sports, business, pop culture, health, hobbies and child-orientated topics. Internet giant Google could be set to announce Provo, Utah as its next fibre city after Kansas City, Missouri and Austin, Texas. The company has signed a deal to acquire the city's existing fibre-optic network, iProvo, but it is still awaiting approval from the city council which will vote on April 23. [read more]


Ericsson has been selected by US rural wireless service provider Cellular One to upgrade its network to 3G. The upgrade is hoped to result in increased coverage in previously underserved areas, with some receiving a 4G upgrade. [read more]
