Vodafone Netherlands selects OpenCloud for LTE support

Vodafone Netherlands has selected software company OpenCloud to support the launch of LTE services.

Following the Dutch spectrum auction in December 2012, bidders are expected to roll out LTE services quickly in the market this year, with Vodafone Netherlands striking the deal in a bid to utilise OpenCloud’s open standards based Rhino products.

OpenCloud will supply Vodafone with a range of services to enable the convergence between legacy GSM and LTE in order to ensure continuity of services for all subscribers, regardless of handset capability or LTE coverage.

OpenCloud CEO Jeff Gordon commented on the fast evolution to LTE and LTE voice services that will require a long term strategy and an intelligence network to be used properly. “The standards and best practises for delivering telco grade voice services on LTE are still to be established,” he said. “Rhino enables Vodafone to span between legacy and LTE networks… that facilitates the early launch of LTE services.”

Roger Curfs, IT project lead LTE at Vodafone Netherlands further reiterated the importance of maintaining service quality with the transition towards LTE. “OpenCloud is helping us to launch LTE services to our subscribers,” he said. “However, time-to-market must be achieved without degradation in the user-experience for voice services. We selected OpenCloud Rhino to deliver proven carrier-grade solutions to enable this.”
