France Telecom-Orange extends 4G LTE network

France Telecom-Orange has today launched its 4G LTE network in a further ten locations, with the service now reaching 15 French towns and cities.

The operator is extending its 4G coverage and intends to have one million subscribers on the platform by December after initially launching its 4G service in Marseille, followed by Lyon, Lille and Nantes in November 2012.

France Telecom Orange has added Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Chartres, Orleans, Dunkirk, Nancy, Metz, Clermont-Ferrand, Grenoble and Annecy to its 4G footprint in the country.

The company hopes to reach full coverage in Paris and its suburbs by the end of this year.

“We are accelerating,” said Delphine Ernotte Cunci, deputy CEO of France Telecom-Orange. “By June, we will open 21 new centres and aiming for more than 30% of the population covered by the end of the year,”

Bouygues Telecom is also strategising for LTE rollout after plans were put in place to launch 4G services in eight French cities.
