TeliaSonera reportedly abandons Yoigo sale

Nordic carrier TeliaSonera has reportedly abandoned plans to sell its Spanish mobile operation Yoigo.

Rumours of the sale first emerged in July 2012 with Reuters reporting that the company could fetch over €1 billion.

Vodafone and France Telecom were deemed the most likely bidders due to the synergies and pricing power a deal would allow them to achieve.

Yoigo will continue to operate independently in 2013, unnamed sources close to the matter told ADSLzone.net.

Despite interest from Telefónica, Vodafone and Orange, the high price of around €1 billion set by TeliaSonera was one of the main factors preventing a sale, according to the publication.

There were also frequency issues as Yoigo’s 3G licence would have needed to have been passed back to the regulator if the buyer already held a licence in the country.
