Azteca Comunicaciones selects Alcatel-Lucent for Colombian NBN
Colombian service provider Azteca Comunicaciones has selected Alcatel-Lucent as a major supplier for the deployment of a national broadband network connecting 753 municipalities.
The national broadband programme led by state-owned telco Compartel is a flagship project with the goal of increasing broadband coverage in Colombia from 27.2% to 95.5% by 2014.
The network will be used to deliver TV, video, voice, and high-speed data services to millions of Colombian consumers and businesses.
Azteca will deploy Alcatel’s point-to-point fibre broadband access technology and a combination of optical transport and IP routing to provide connections to buildings, businesses, government offices and homes in 216 municipalities.
"The government of Colombia has set very aggressive targets for increasing the availability of broadband services throughout the country. We turned to Alcatel-Lucent because of its experience with the deployment of large-scale, complex broadband networks. Our collaboration with Alcatel-Lucent - one of the broadband market leaders - will help us to ensure that this project is completed quickly and with exceptional quality," said Alexandra Reyes, CEO of Azteca Comunicaciones Colombia .
