Everything Everywhere plans spectrum sale

Everything Everywhere, the joint venture between Deutsche Telekom’s T-Mobile UK and France Telecom’s Orange has announced plans to sell some of its UK spectrum.

The auction, which will begin next month, is expected to raise up to £400 million. The spectrum being sold is in the 1800Mhz band and is likely to attract significant interest from rivals Vodafone, O2 and Three as well as other companies with an interest in mobile services.

Everything Everywhere was forced to sell some of its spectrum by European competition authorities following the merger last year. The spectrum sale needs to be concluded before the UK’s main spectrum auction, which is likely to take place at the end of this year or early next year.

The UK spectrum auction was originally set to take place in early 2012 but was delayed following disputes between the country’s mobile operators.

Last month Everything Everywhere pledged a £1.5 billion investment in LTE over the next three years.
