Telecom Italia makes emerging market consulting play
Telecom Italia has said it is offering its expertise to carriers in emerging markets to help them look for growth opportunities as it seeks to develop its own revenue outside its domestic market.
Telecom Italia said its Global Partnerships Program will encompass the Africa, the Middle East, Asia and South America, giving carriers in those regions access to its ‘know-how, international experience and technologies in order to enhance efficiency, become more competitive and develop their own business’.
It said partnership is being offered to fixed-line as well as mobile telephony companies and MVNOs.
It claimed to be diverging from other European telcos offering consulting services in emerging markets by basing its approach on direct relations between partner operators and its own operational structures.
Consulting services will include assistance with defining technology plans, designing, implementing and managing next-generation networks as well as optimising IT system performance through planning and outsourcing management support. It said partners will have the chance to access Telecom Italia’s labs to develop their own plans, as well as test equipment, devices and services.
Meanwhile the Italian incumbent has promised help to its own submarine cable subsidiary MedNautilus which is bidding for an infrastructure project in Israel. MedNautilus operates the main undersea link between Israel and the world. If successful, it would be able to connect its cable with a nationwide fibre optic network being planned for the country.
