The service is aimed at providing carriers and service providers with the ability to route HD voice calls between other carriers and hosted voice application providers. The service has already been adopted by communications and computing solutions provider 8x8, which began a HD calling service to business subscribers in January 2010.
8x8’s chairman and CEO Bryan Martin said the service enabled his company to provide “enhanced audio fidelity required by our subscribers and completes the calls across its all-IP network”.
HD voice offers end users increased call clarity, making it an appealing option for conference calls. Neutral Tandem’s services operates using a SIP interconnect that routes HD voice across Neutral Tandem’s network, which is capable of terminating calls to over 550 million telephony end points.
“We look forward to speaking with other carriers and service providers who are planning wideband voice deployments regarding testing and interconnecting to our HD voice service, to maximise the value for their customers,” said Surendra Saboo, COO of Neutral Tandem.
Neutral Tandem has also recently appointed David Zwick as the company’s SVP of business development. Zwick will play a key role in developing the company’s merger and acquisition strategy.
