Best value for consumer broadband in Hong Kong

Hong Kong offers the best value for consumer broadband in the world, according to a study by Point Topic. Internet service provider HKBN provides the cheapest broadband at $0.028 per megabyte, compared to Peruvian company Telefonica de Peru, which provides the most expensive broadband at $209.29 per megabyte.

For the first time, Singapore has entered the top 10 countries in terms of value for consumer broadband, after its broadband prices dropped from $0.9 per megabit of bandwidth to $0.271 between the second and third quarters of 2010.

“Nine of the 10 best value tariffs are either pure fibre or hybrid offerings where fibre is a significant part of the local loop,” says Fiona Vanier, senior analyst at Point Topic. The exception is Germany, where Unity Media offers a very competitive cable service.
