Vodafone strikes strategic partnership with SoftBank

Vodafone has struck a strategic partnership with Japanese telco giant SoftBank to enhance operational support for its enterprise customers operating in Japan.

The agreement is around mobile services for enterprise customers and will help enhance commercial and operational support for Vodafone’s multinational enterprise customers operating in the Asian country.

SoftBank and Vodafone have history, with the former buying Vodafone’s Japanese arm in 2006 for around £9 billion. Vodafone offloaded the unit amid falling customer numbers, with SoftBank rebranding Vodafone Japan under its own branding in October of that year.

SoftBank Corp. president & CEO Ken Miyauchi said: "We are extremely pleased to be able to further improve and expand our corporate customer services. Based on this strategic collaboration by Vodafone and SoftBank, we look forward to further enhancing our services to provide a new experience for our customers."

Vodafone has a number of partnerships with operators across the globe which sees the British firm using their networks to supply voice and data for its multinational enterprise customers. 

Earlier this year, it announced a partnership with Tele2, whilst also renewing a separate deal with TDC, similar deals with HiWEB in Iran and with T-Mobile USA in the US.

Vodafone Partner Markets chief executive Diego Massidda commented: "This strategic alliance brings together two of the world’s leading communications companies to provide enterprise customers with the most innovative and responsive service and support in Japan."
