According to reports, the broadband network will be deployed in 40 metropolitan areas across Mexico, with the aim of increasing bandwidth for commercial internet access.
The Niba network will enable internet access through three interconnection points in the cities of Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City. It is designed to create a high-speed network via 40 links and connection points, enabling 1-10Gbps bandwidth speeds.
Axtel was the winning bidder, and will hold the contract for the next four years and seven months, beating off competition from seven companies which submitted offers in the tender.
The project aims to address 60% of the population.
